FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS AN EVALUATION NECESSARY TO BEGIN THERAPY?

A current evaluation is important for determining your child's communication needs. If your child has had an evaluation completed within the past six months in the specific areas of concern or if they have a current IEP, a modified evaluation can be given to determine baseline and develop a treatment plan.

MY CHILD RECEIVES SPEECH SERVICES THROUGH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, CAN THEY ALSO DO PRIVATE THERAPY?

Yes! Enrolling in private therapy can help students make faster progress with the more focused attention that is given in a one-on-one setting. I am happy to coordinate services with a child's school-based SLP to maximize the effectiveness of all services provided.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I do not currently bill insurance for my services. I charge competitive private pay rates which can potentially save you money compared to what you would pay out of pocket with some insurance companies. I charge $40 per 30 minute therapy session at this time. Contact me if you have any questions about cost and a detailed breakdown of my pricing can be provided.

WHERE ARE THERAPY SESSIONS HELD?

In-person sessions are held at my home office in Rexburg, Idaho. Teletherapy appointments are also available for clients located anywhere in Idaho.

MY CHILD DID NOT QUALIFY FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT SPEECH SERVICES, CAN THEY STILL RECEIVE PRIVATE SPEECH THERAPY?

School districts have strict qualifying criteria for receiving speech and language services. A student may have been "not low enough" to qualify for school based services, but still benefit from speech therapy. If you are concerned about your child's speech or language development, please do not hesitate to contact me and discuss options.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD NEEDS SPEECH THERAPY?

Speech therapy could benefit your child if you answer "yes" to any of the following questions:

  • People have a difficult time understanding what my child says

  • My child's speech errors affect their reading/writing

  • My child substitutes or distorts speech sounds

  • My child has a limited vocabulary for their age

  • My child is often frustrated that they can't communicate their needs

  • My child has difficulty following directions or asking/answering questions

  • There is a family history of communication disorders

  • My child struggles with spoken or written language comprehension

This is not an exhaustive list. If you have any questions about your child's communication skills, please contact me to discuss how speech therapy may benefit your child.
